The next SOS public meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 9th at 7pm at
the Slater Rec Hall (Community Action building) beside the Slater Community
Hall.Water quality issues will be discussed along with information about a water
quality project. Current issues affecting the Saluda watershed to be reviewed
include the Greenville Water System project on the South Saluda and the Cliffs
land application permit of treated wastewater.

April 28, 2008 at 6:30pm- DHEC Community Meeting @ North Greenville University at the Hayes Fine arts Center,Hamlin Recital Hall, Tigerville, SC. DHEC officials will be answering questions concerning the proposed 401 Water Quality Certification for the Cliffs @ Mountain Park( golf course permit). Representatives from the Cliffs will make a brief presentation on the proposed project. All SOS supporters are asked to attend to voice their opposition to the golf course due to the major degradation the project will have on the North Saluda River.
April 26 - SOS will hold a fundraising event on
Saturday, from 2pm to 7pm, at Leopard Forest Café, in Travelers Rest, S.C.
The event will include live music from Fat City Cats and friends.
Food and drinks are available from the Café, but picnic and tailgate lunches
are encouraged ( No grills with open flames or alcoholic beverages, please
). Information will be provided about SOS, threats to the watershed, and on
the importance of protecting this precious natural resource. T-shirts and other
items will be available for sale and order. Admission is free. Leopard
Forest Café is located at 26 South Main Street (Hwy 276) in Travelers
Rest. Parking will be available on both sides of the Café and across the street
at H&R Block.

The Greater Travelers
Rest Community Forum hosts a discussion with Paula Gucker, Director of Public
Works, about the recently formed Land Development Division of Greenville County.
This reorganized group reviews
engineering plans for storm water compliance on construction
sites before issuing grading permits. Plans are
also reviewed to ensure compliance to road standards, as
outlined in the county's land development regulations for new subdivisions. The
division implements the water quality components of any National Pollutant
Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit, the compliance system for the
federal Clean Water Act. NPDES permits control direct discharges, or "point
source" discharges such as pipes and sewers, into the
nation's waters.
