Ways you can help to Save Our Saluda
1. Become a SOS member and volunteer for SOS projects.

2. Participate in the SOS spring and fall river clean-up events.

3. Donate - Financial contributions are needed to help with SOS projects and operational expenses. Your contribution is tax deductible! Please make checks payable to Save Our Saluda and mail your contribution to P.O. Box 345, Marietta, SC 29661. You may also donate buy using the Pay Pal link on the SOS Home Page.

5.Prevent pollutants in storm water runoff by reducing or eliminating the use of chemicals and fertilizers on your land. Use native plants that have low requirements for water, fertilizers and pesticides.

6. Never dispose of chemicals, oil or radiator fluids in your sewer system or on the ground. Call your county Solid Waste Division to find out how to dispose of household hazardous waste.

7. Protect the vegatation along stream banks. Riparian buffers are important for erosion control, food supply for aquatic life, and the maintenance of cooler water necessary for trout and other aquatic species.

8. Conserve water by using low-flow faucets and showerheads and by being aware of your water use.

9. Maintain your septic system by pumping every 3-5 years.

10.Clean up your pet's waste which contains nutrients and pathogens. Employ practices to manage animal waste on farms to prevent water contamination.

11.Get involved in local planning decisions and encourage your local officials to adopt effective erosion control and stormwater management programs.

12. Determine the nearest stream to your home and learn more about the watershed you are in. (Check out www.epa.gov/surf)
